Show 1 - Ghost Light Tour at the Globe

 Ghost Tour at the Globe

review

Goals

The goals of this tour was to create an immersive and interactive performance. We decided to add clues that where collected at the end. The way it worked was each character gave an audience a clue which the stage manager collected and let the audience go to the end - Carrie's Prom.

Characters

For the show I had 2 Characters that I played. I played a chronic in a mental asylum on the first day. On the second day I played the Stage Manager. When we first talked about the characters in the show I knew that I wanted to be Bonnie Parker from the crime Bonnie and Clyde duo. I auditioned as Bonnie and loved it as I enjoyed playing the character. When I got the cast list and saw that I was the stage manager I felt sad as I didn't get the role I wanted but really enjoyed the two characters I played. The reason i enjoyed them so much is because there was a lot of creative freedom with them as for the chronic i could choose what was wrong with me and why i was in the asylum and with the stage ,manager i could have any backstory i wanted and have her anyway. for example at the start i wanted her to be Irish as i wanted to challenge myself to as new and different accent that i have never done before.

Vocal Review

As the chronic I didn't talk at all. With the stage manager I originally planned to have her with an Irish accent but struggled to have the pace and volume i wanted as when talking I wasn't clear. I wanted my character to be manic and stressed therefore she spoke quickly, was erratic and shouted as she didn't want anything else to go wrong.

Physical/Movement

Part of the chronic's backstory was that her legs couldn't work due to the medication which was a challenge but with practice it was easier. In the tour the asylum was seen twice by the audience and the second time was more crazier. My character tried to move with the cleaner's mop closer to the audience which was scary.

Collaboration with Cast

As a chronic I worked with the cleaners and the nurses in the asylum. In particular I worked with one of the cleaners to organise the timing for the mop dropping as he ran after a patient so I could use it to try and stand up to move towards the audience. For the role of stage manager I worked with the mad director as we had a little scene together. Working with him was good. To start with we discussed the characters past interactions and relationship which is that he fired all her team so she has to do everything herself which is why she is very stressed.

Props + Costumes

For the role of the Chronic we had to wear a plain white top with grey joggers and white socks. Wearing this and having the makeup to make me look more pale and have bags under my eyes made me feel more insane. I think the fact that all the patients looked the same made us seem more scary and intimidating.

For the role of the Stage Manager I wore all black and had a belt with tape and scissors on as they are things that a stage manager will need. Even though I never used any of the tools it still helped me to bring my character to life.

Strengths

I remembered all lines, remembered cues and was never seen by audience when I didn't need to be which is good because I was rocking the chair for the woman in black. As a chronic I was scary and never broke character therefore was very convincing.

Weaknesses and improvements

On the first performance I was really nervous so just rambled and I wasn't understood properly. This annoyed me because I know that I can perform well.
As a chronic I could have stayed in character the whole time in case an audience member saw me or needed to walk past our space again.

Set Goals

To improve I will be confident and not panic right before I am about to go on stage and perform. I will find easier ways to get into characters because it was definitely easier to get into the chronic character other than the stage manager.
