My Year 1 Journey

My Year 1 Journey

When I first started college, I had just done GCSE Drama and had performed in many shows during school. These included: Mary Poppins, School of Rock, Matilda and Wizard of Oz. Therefore, when I started college, I already had some acting experience. Our first show was The Ghost Light our at the Stockton Globe. His show introduced a new type of theatre I have never done before which is immersive theatre where the audience moves from place to place and we interact with the audience. My two characters were different because one I talked to the audience and one I was a background character. This show widened my knowledge of different types of theatre and built on my acting skills from before. Our next show was the musical My Son Geppetto. I have already done musicals, but this was different as I had a main role with a solo song. Before this I had never done a main role before so found it challenging to start with but my confidence in singing grew and my ability also increased. Our next show was Normalised where I was a background character. During this show I grew more confident in my acting abilities and learnt more about naturalistic acting which was interesting. My next show was DNA which was an experience. I had my first monologue which was helpful to learn for university auditions. The next show was The Railway Children at the Locomotion in Shildon. This show was performed on a traverse stage with no backstage, so we had to always be in character as where always seen by audience. The main challenge of this show was the stage, but we quickly adapted and it was successful. One way we quickly learnt thew stage was in rehearsal we had a stage marked out with tape. My last show was The Lovely Bones. This shows main challenge for me was the accent as I really struggled to learn it and keep it while talking. Throughout the whole year, my confidence in myself and my abilities increased a lot. Also, my knowledge of practioners, different stages, different types of theatre, singing and dancing increased throughout the year.
